বাবুর প্রথম বইয়ের আলমারি বড় হতে হয় না; পাঁচটি নরম কাপড়ের বই দিয়েই ঘরের মেঝেতে ছোট্ট এক পৃথিবী খুলে যায়। এক পাশে বনজ প্রাণী, এক পাশে সমুদ্রজগৎ, তারপর ফল, সবজি, খামারের প্রাণী। আপনি বইগুলো সারি করে রাখতেই বাবুর চোখ এক ছবি থেকে আরেক ছবিতে যায়। হাত বাড়ে। পাতা ধরা হয়। কোনো ফলের রং বেশি টানে, কোনো প্রাণীর মুখ দেখে হাসি আসে, কোনো মাছ বা গরুর ছবিতে আঙুল থামে। এই থামাটুকুই খেলার শুরু।

খেলার প্রথম ধাপ খুব সহজ: একটি বই বেছে নিন, বাবুর সামনে রাখুন, তারপর ছবির নাম বলুন। “এটা আপেল”, “এটা গরু”, “এটা মাছ”, “এটা গাছের জগত।” কথার সঙ্গে আঙুল রাখুন ছবির ওপর। বাবু তাকালে একটু অপেক্ষা করুন, তারপর একই শব্দ আবার বলুন। একই বই টামি টাইমে একটু দূরে রাখলে বাবু মাথা তোলে, হাত বাড়ায়, শরীর ঘুরিয়ে কাছে যেতে চায়। কোলে বসে পড়ার সময় পাতা উল্টানোর ছোট কাজটা বাবুর হাতে দিন। ধরা, চেপে ধরা, পাতা খোঁজা, আঙুল দিয়ে দেখানো—এসব ছোট ছোট কাজ ফাইন মোটর স্কিলকে কাজ দেয়। বইয়ের দিকে ঝুঁকে যাওয়া, মেঝেতে হাত বাড়ানো, শরীর সরিয়ে কাছে আসা—এসব গ্রস মোটর স্কিলেরও সুন্দর অনুশীলন।

এই সেটে শব্দ শেখা শুধু নাম মুখস্থ করা নয়। ফলের বই খুলে রান্নাঘরের ফলের সঙ্গে মিল খুঁজুন। সবজির বই দেখে দুপুরের খাবারের কথা বলুন। খামারের প্রাণী দেখে “গরু কী শব্দ করে?” খেলুন। সমুদ্রজগতে মাছ, কাঁকড়া, অক্টোপাস নিয়ে হাতের ভঙ্গি করুন। বনজ প্রাণীর বইয়ে বড়-ছোট, লাফায়-হাঁটে, দ্রুত-ধীরে—এমন ছোট তুলনা আনুন। বাবু কথা না বললেও চোখ, আঙুল, হাসি, শরীর ঘোরানো দিয়ে উত্তর দেয়। কেয়ারগিভার সেই উত্তরের ওপর পরের বাক্যটি রাখলেই টার্ন-টেকিং তৈরি হয়।

প্রম্পটগুলো ছোট রাখুন: “কোথায় আপেল?”, “কোন প্রাণীটা বড়?”, “মাছ কোথায় থাকে?”, “কোনটা খাই?”, “আমরা কোন বইটা আগে পড়ব?” ভুল উত্তর ধরার দরকার নেই। বাবু যে ছবিতে ফিরছে, সেখানেই কথাটা বাড়ান। পরিচিত ছবি বারবার দেখা মানে শেখা পাকাপোক্ত হওয়া। নরম পাতা, রঙিন ছবি, কেয়ারগিভারের কণ্ঠ আর বাবুর নিজের হাত—এই চার জিনিস মিলে বইকে খেলনা বানায়, আর খেলনাকে শেখার উষ্ণ জায়গা বানায়।

A first set of books does not need a shelf. It needs a clean spot on the floor, a familiar voice, and pictures that invite little hands to move. The themes make daily play easy to refresh. Use the fruit book near snack time and connect the picture to something your baby sees at home. Use the vegetable book before lunch and talk about color, shape, and taste. Open the farm animal book and make the animal sounds together. Move through the sea world book with swimming hands, wiggling fingers, and questions about where fish live. With the forest animal book, compare big and small, fast and slow, hiding and finding. The words stay simple, but the play becomes rich.

This is where the early childhood value sits: repeated, warm, responsive interaction. A clothbook lets your baby choose, explore, return, and try again without the pressure of a correct answer. Looking at a picture, hearing its name, touching the page, and seeing the caregiver respond all help picture-word association, listening response, memory, sequencing, visual tracking, and cause-effect understanding. Sorting the books into “food” and “animals” adds early classification. Asking “which one first?” brings choice and confidence into the moment.

Use short prompts and follow your baby’s attention: “Where is the apple?”, “Which animal is big?”, “What lives in water?”, “Which one do we eat?”, “Which book first?” If your baby returns to the same page, stay there. Repetition is how familiar pictures become secure knowledge. Over time, these soft books become a small screen-free routine for movement, language, sensory exploration, and the quiet pleasure of learning together.
